Our Founder

A graduate of Rice University (Electrical Engineering, class of 1955), James (Jim) E. Petersen, Sr. founded The Texas Development Company in the 1970s. Starting with just a couple of warehouses built to house his successful manufacturing company, industrial real estate development soon became his passion. Over the next 40 years, Jim would purchase 300 acres of land across the Greater Houston area and build nearly 4 million square feet of industrial warehousing, of which over 95% are equipped with heavy crane service.

Combining his love of building and incredible engineering know-how, Jim grew TDC to become one of the largest privately-owned industrial real estate developers in Houston. Supported by his talented staff: Ray Krell, Joe Marik, and Steve Marmion, TDC became what it is today, recognized as the foremost supplier of industrial crane-served warehousing in the greater Houston area. Continuing that tradition today are Ray Krell (CEO), Jim’s family, Joe Marik’s sons, and Mike Farris, Leasing Manager.

Jim Petersen was proud to be a graduate of St. John’s School, Rice University, and a Native Houstonian.
